IONE, Calif. — Ten local firefighters attended off-road vehicle training in Ione on April 10 and now they are passing on the knowledge to their departments.

The group, including five firefighters from Humboldt Fire Protection District No. 1 and five from the Arcata Fire Department, went to the CalFire academy for the training, according to a press release from Humboldt Fire.

The purpose of the class was to give instruction and practice in driving four-wheel drive fire apparatus in a variety of off-road situations. The one-day class included a classroom presentation on driver safety, and techniques to use when driving large pieces of equipment off road. After the classroom portion, students were then taken to the four-wheel drive course, and practiced different exercises on a variety of terrains.
