CENTREVILLE, Ill. Five firefighters were injured Friday while battling a heavy fire in a mobile home in Centreville, Illinois.

Four of the firefighters overheated but were treated and released, according to Sharon Davis, assistant chief of the Camp Jackson Fire Department.

One firefighter suffered an electrical shock and remains in a nearby hospital in stable condition.

The family that lived in the home were away during the fire, Davis said.

The crew arrived to the scene on 5712 Baker Avenue shortly after 4:30 p.m. A heavy fire had spread throughout the double-wide mobile home and a car in a nearby driveway.

Firefighters called for backup because of the fire’s size and strength, Davis said. It took fire crews more than three hours to put out the fire.

Two firefighters were overcome by heat and treated at the scene. Two others were treated at a nearby hospital and released.

Friday’s high temperatures and humidity added to the fire’s heat, Davis said. She said it’s not common for five officers to be injured fighting one fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
