Fire truck hit by runaway tractor after fatal incident

Officials say a person was hit and killed by the tractor, which then struck the fire apparatus as firefighters and sheriff’s deputies tried to stop it

Kent County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were attempting to stop a runaway tractor that killed one person when it collided with a fire truck.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — One person was killed Monday, April 27, when hit by a tractor near 84th Street SE and Breton Avenue, authorities said.

The victim’s name has not been released.

Dutton firefighters responded just before 9 p.m. to a report of an out-of-control tractor and an injured person.

While firefighters and Kent County sheriff’s deputies worked to stop the tractor, it broke free from an implement it was pulling and crashed into a fire truck, causing significant damage.

No sheriff’s deputies or firefighters were injured.

Kent County sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate.
