MARIN COUNTY, Calif. — A firefighter was transported to the hospital Saturday after a fire engine crashed into a tree on its way to a call, according to officials.

Marin Independent Journal reported that the engine was on its way to a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle when it hit the tree, according to Marin County fire Battalion Chief Bret McTigue.

The driver of the engine was uninjured, but the 24-year-old unidentified seasonal firefighter who was riding in the engine was transported to the hospital. He was reported in stable condition in the emergency room.

The fire engine’s cab was totaled, according to Chief McTigue.

“It’ll be taken over to the county garage,” he said. “The mechanic will start looking at it to look at the extent of damage.”

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

“They’re questioning the driver and anyone in the area to look at conditions,” Chief McTigue said.
