Video: N.J. firefighters injured in fire engine crash, rollover

Newark firefighters were responding to a fire when their fire engine collided with a car and overturned.

NEWARK, N.J. — Three firefighters were injured in a crash Sunday night in Newark involving a fire truck and a car outside the Prudential Center, authorities said.

The crash took place around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Lafayette and Mulberry streets as the firefighters were en route to a call, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday morning.

The occupants of the car also suffered injuries considered non-life-threatening. The firefighters and the people in the car were brought to an an area hospital, officials said.

Video from WABC-7 shows the firetruck on its side.

There was no event at the arena on Sunday night.

The Newark Department of Public Safety, which includes the police and fire department, referred questions to the prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor’s office didn’t immediately provide additional information.
