Ala. firefighter killed in fire truck turnover

COOSA COUNTY, Ala. — A volunteer firefighter was killed when his fire truck overturned on the way to a call.

WSFA 12 reported that Michael Johnston, a member of the Equality Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD), was responding to a brush fire call on Highway 231 South when his fire truck overturned. He was declared dead at the scene.

Several local volunteer department responded to the incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Johnston,” the Coosa County Sheriff’s Department said in a release. “The Coosa County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Mr. Johnston for his service to the (residents) of Coosa County.”

Alabama State Troopers are investigating the incident.
