PELLA, Iowa — A volunteer firefighter was killed in single-vehicle crash Friday night.
West Burlington firefighter James Lee Franciskovich was traveling with firefighters Carrie Falcon, 35, and Shane McCampbell, 26, to a training exercise when their fire department vehicle crashed. The vehicle left the roadway and veered into a ditch, reported The Pella Chronicle.
Officials said Falcon and McCampbell were wearing their seat belts when the crash occurred, but Franciskovich was not. He was pronounced dead the scene.
Falcon and McCampbell were transported to the hospital for minor injuries; they were treated and later released.
