Md. firefighter-paramedic dies of COVID-19

CARROLL COUNTY, Md. — Firefighter-Paramedic Robert A. “Bobby” Jones died in the line of duty Thursday after a battle with COVID-19, the Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS of Maryland, Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company, and Carroll County Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics IAFF Local 5184 jointly announced on Facebook.

Jones was reportedly exposed to the virus while on the job in December.

His loss is the first line of duty death for all three.

“His unshakable sense of calm and amazing sense of humor are pieces of the immense void that Bobby leaves in our family and hearts,” said IAFF Local 5184 President Michael Karolenko via Facebook.

Jones began his career in fire service with the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Company in 1978, where he remained a member until his death. Jones served in the Baltimore County Fire Department as a firefighter-paramedic until his retirement as a fire lieutenant in 2012.

Jones is survived by his mother, five siblings, a stepdaughter, and one grandson.
