WACO, Texas — The stars of a popular HGTV show have helped to ensure that a paralyzed firefighter’s handicap-accessible home can soon be started.
KWTX reported that Chip and Joanna Gaines of “Fixer Upper” offered to pay for some of the construction expenses.
“Chip and Joanna have offered to pick up the last big ticket item,” contractor Wes Waller said. Waller has teamed up with local firefighters who launched a campaign to build the home for firefighter Garth Goodwin and his family.
“They’re going to pay for the cost of the lumber,” Waller said.
Because of their contribution, ground will be broken on the home next week. The plan is to have the house completed by Thanksgiving.
Garth Goodwin was injured in May when he fell from a billboard. He is paralyzed from the waist down.
