ALBANY, Australia — A firefighter who suffered serious burns in a bushfire near Albany is still in a critical condition, after she was injured last Friday.

The 45-year-old woman suffered burns to 60 per cent of her body when she and a colleague were caught in a truck engulfed in flames while fighting a bushfire in Two Peoples Bay.

Her 24-year-old colleague, who suffered less severe burns, remains in a stable condition.

Albany detectives are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority’s Don Sullivan says the blaze has been extinguished but authorities are keeping a close watch.

“The fire currently is being handed back to local government and it is just being patrolled,” he said.

“Basically they’re just patrolling to make sure there’s no flare ups and that everything is okay.”
