KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A fire captain watched unsettling live footage of a thief break into his home and steal his belongings.
Kansas City Fire Capt. Sammy Belgiere was on duty when the break-in occurred Tuesday night. The 18-year veteran was able to watch the thief in real time through a security camera app on his phone, reported FOX4.
The burglary comes months after another Kansas City firefighter’s home was broken into. Firefighter Ryan Koehler also caught thieves on camera as they broke through his front door December 2016.
“It’s the worst feeling in the world,” Capt. Belgiere said. “It’s violating. It’s like you’re helpless. There’s not much you can do.”
Security footage showed the thief walking through Capt. Belgiere’s bedroom with a flashlight, going through his closet, wardrobe and nightstand drawers. His Harley Davidson motorcycle was also stolen.
Capt. Belgiere called 911, but the thief was already gone by the time authorities arrived to his home. No one was home at the time of the incident.
“It’s a sick feeling,” Capt. Belgiere said. “I have a daughter that’s 6 years old. God forbid if she was here with my mom or someone else.”
