BOSSIER, La,— For the first time in its history, the Bossier City Fire Department, in conjunction with Bossier Parish Technical School, is teaching Bossier Parish high school seniors to be certified as Firefighters.
As part of an ongoing education partnership with Bossier Parish Schools, the department’s training division will instruct students in a Firefighter I course, the same basic firefighter class that all Bossier City Fire Department recruits attend. The first class of the spring semester will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 8 a.m. at the BCFD Training Center, 5850 Shed Road. Seven students are enrolled in this class.
Fire Chief Sammy Halphen approached the Bossier Parish Technical School to offer the Firefighter I course to generate interest in the fire service among high school seniors and help train them as future firefighters while promoting recruitment for the Bossier City Fire Department.
