KERRVILLE, Texas Saving lives, whether through fighting a fire or responding to the scene of a crash, is in Sarah Noble’s blood.

The newest member of the Kerrville Fire Department and the department’s first female certified firefighter, Noble is the daughter of a U.S. Air Force medic and a nurse. Her brother is a police officer.

A San Antonio native, Noble officially began her job with the Kerrville Fire Department Tuesday after spending six months at the Seguin Fire Department.

Becoming a first responder, where she will be serving both as a firefighter and a paramedic, appealed to Noble on several levels, she said.

“I like the adrenaline rush,” she said. “It’s a very rewarding career. You go home feeling you made a difference. To me, there’s no better feeling.

“I like the fast pace. I like being on the streets. All of that goes for EMS as well as firefighting.”

Throughout her first week on the job, Noble has been training and becoming familiar with Stations 1 and 4, where she will be assigned. She will start responding to calls late this week.

While she is certified in firefighting, her job also includes EMS duties, so she will be able to respond in either capacity.

“In a situation I am capable of doing firefighting, but right now I’m not focused on that part but it’s in the background,” Noble said.

Training, she said, is going well.

“So far, it’s great,” she said. “Everybody’s been really helpful and generous. I can tell I’m in good hands. I can tell I’m going to be successful here.”

EMS Chief Eric Maloney said the department is happy to welcome Noble to Kerrville.

“We’re happy to have her on board,” he said.

When Noble is not working, she said she enjoys working out and physical fitness. She also enjoys spending time with her family, including her 15-month-old niece, and going two-stepping.
