McALESTER, Okla. — This weekend in McAlester, hundreds of volunteer fire departments are training to save property and lives. For many of them, staying up to date on training is difficult. The McAlester Firefighter Classic hosts free training and it’s training that the volunteers wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else.
More than 100 agencies and 400 firefighters suited up to feel the heat. One training class is done in a flash over simulator that allows the firefighters to feel fire that reaches 1,200 degrees. With this training, the firefighters feel more prepared to go to work.
“When it’s game time, we can go in and properly do what we need to do,” Luther firefighter Alan Morgan said.
