EAST HAMPTON, Conn. — Firefighters providing mutual aid at a house fire so the conditions of the house impeded crews’ efforts, and they were able to leave the scene nearly three hours after their initial arrival.

Members of the Portland Fire Department said they assisted East Hampton firefighters at the Schoolhouse Lane fire shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday, but the operation was “hindered by hoarding conditions.”

“We were able to provide manpower and assist with fire suppression,” the department said. “An aggressive interior attack was carried out to try and minimize the fire spread.”

East Hampton Volunteer Fire Department Chief Robert Rainville said two residents were displaced following the fire.
