HAMILTON, Ohio — The widow of firefighter Patrick Wolterman is organizing a 5K race in memory of her late husband.
Bre Wolterman, 28, lost her husband Dec. 28, 2015 while he was fighting a house fire caused by arson. The 5K, dubbed “Party Run Walk for 86,” is set for 9 a.m. on May 14. The run’s namesake comes from Wolterman’s desire to use her late husband’s initial and badge number, as well as a tribute to his fun-loving personality.
“He always liked to joke around. He was always watching stupid YouTube videos and making others laugh,” Wolterman told WCPO. “That’s what Pat would want. He would want us to have a good time and party a bit.”
Wolterman and eight other firefighter wives are coordinating the event with the help of volunteers.
The proceeds will be donated to the Hamilton Fire Department Honor Guard in order to fund their trip to represent Wolterman at the National Fallen Firefighter Memorial and the International Association of Firefighters Memorial in Colorado.
“That day will be an important day for us to remember Pat and some of the not-serious things about him,” Tony Harris, the president of IAFF Local 20, said.
