CLINTON, Tenn. — Someone posing as a member of the Claxton Volunteer Fire Department is a “scam artist” going door-to-door, trying to convince residents that if they don’t pay, the fire department won’t respond, authorities said.
“This is a scam,” Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said.
Fire Chief Donnie Shipley was told two Old Edgemoor Road residents were approached by the solicitor, became suspicious and didn’t pay.
“There may be other victims of the scam,” Lucas said.
Shipley indicated the fire department responds to all fires, medical calls and other emergencies in the Claxton community and doesn’t solicit door-to-door.
Lucas said the sheriff’s department would be investigating these incidents as attempted fraud.
