CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — Boy Scout Caleb Holley attended the Cumberland County commissioners’ public meeting Wednesday in hopes of gaining their support for his ambitious Eagle Scout project: a memorial for firefighter and EMS personnel killed in the line of duty.
He hopes to build it at the training center on Army Heritage Drive in Middlesex Township. Holley, a member of Boy Scout troop 89 based in East Pennsboro Township, pitched his plan to the board alongside his father and Curtis Alleman, president of the Cumberland County Volunteer Firefighters Association.
“Caleb first approached me about a year ago, as his troop volunteers with the Northeast Fire and Rescue Co. in East Pennsboro with a few of our events during the year,” Alleman said in an email Thursday. “Being a volunteer with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation as a family escort at the annual memorial service in Maryland each year, I know how special the national memorial is to the families and thought that it would be a great idea to have a similar memorial in Cumberland County to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
