LEBANON, Pa. — Lebanon Fire Commissioner Duane Trautman made some news Wednesday at his lunchtime address to the Community of Lebanon Association when he unveiled a new logo for the Lebanon City Fire Department that will be worn as a patch on firefighters’ uniforms and emblazoned on fire apparatus.
Trautman designed the logo. He said he based its shape on the eight-pointed Maltese Cross, emblematic of the Knights of St. John’s who protected the city of Jerusalem from fire bomb attacks in the 12th Century. Its predominant red and blue colors are a nod to Lebanon School District colors, he said.
At the logo’s center is the letter “L” printed in a Roman font identical to the one used by the Lebanon Steel Foundry, said Trautman. To the left of the L is a train locomotive, and to its right the green peak of the city’s iconic Samler building located at Eighth and Cumberland Streets.
The name of the city’s nine volunteer fire companies are printed in a yellow circle surrounding the letter L. The logo also includes a fire hydrant, ladder and hook to symbolize the tools used by firefighters.
“I think the patch is a demonstration of the fire department serving in the community and the history of the community,” Trautman said. The $1,200 cost of creating the logo and patches was offset with a $500 contribution from the CLA, said Trautman. Local businesses have also contributed, he said.
