BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A fire captain is out of the hospital after suffering a stroke in September.

BakersfieldNow reported that Bakersfield (Calif.) Fire Department Capt. Mark Cohen, a 29-year veteran, was discharged from the hospital after multiple surgeries, a prolonged hospital stay and physical therapy. Capt. Cohen will continue outpatient therapy.

To help alleviate some of the financial burden, a pancake breakfast was held in early November to raise funds for Cohen’s medical expenses. Battalion Chief Danny Brown said they raised $12,000 for Cohen’s care.

If you would still like to donate to Cohen’s recovery fund, a check can be made out to the Bakersfield Firefighters Relief Association and dropped off at Station 1, 2101 H St.
