MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — When firefighter Andrew Andras isn’t knocking down fires, he’s busy breaking world records.

Andras currently holds the Guinness World Record for skating the longest distance on a skateboard; his last record was in 2015, when he skated 309 miles over a span of 24 hours. His previous record was 260 miles.

“It takes a lot of determination and a lot of heart to kind of push through that,” Andras told NBC Miami.

Andras credits the long shifts and dedication of being a firefighter with his success in breaking records.

“It’s been fun. It’s transformed who I am, the way I see things. I made my benchmark in the sport at this time and I’m looking forward to seeing the youngsters come up,” Andras said.
