JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. — A volunteer fire department is grieving the loss of their chief, who died while preparing to respond to an emergency. It happened about 5:15 a.m. Saturday.
Director of Jackson County Emergency Services, Walter Smittle tells WSAZ.com that Southern Jackson Volunteer Fire Chief Charlie Pierson died from a heart attack.
Smittle says Chief Pierson was in an emergency vehicle — getting ready to respond to a car crash when the heart attack happened.
