NC firefighter dies after on-scene heart attack

MILLERS CREEK, NC — A volunteer firefighter died Saturday of an apparent heart attack after suffering chest pains at the scene of a fire, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Engineer William ‘Gray’ Parsons, of the Millers Creek, NC, Volunteer Fire Department, complained of serious discomfort in his chest and then slumped over the steering wheel of the apparatus had driven to an incident on Thursday.

Air Care transported Engineer Parsons to the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he passed away two days later.

Engineer Parsons, 58, had served 20 years in the fire service, eight with the Miller Creek Volunteer Fire Department. His funeral is planned for Friday.

Funeral Details: Visitation will be at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 5 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral will be held at Millers Creek Baptist Church on Friday, Feb. 6 at 11:30 a.m. with graveside service to follow at Stony Hill Baptist Church in Parsonsville, NC.
