TROY, N.C. — Montgomery County firefighter Earl Harrington remains in stable condition at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill where he underwent another surgery on Monday.
He was seriously hurt last Thursday in a traffic accident at the scene of a woods fire to which the Candor Fire Department responded.
Corey Roberts, Montgomery County emergency services director, said Monday afternoon that Harrington is “doing well and in very good spirits.” Several fellow firefighters visited with him over the weekend.
The Candor resident remains in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit where he is recovering from the loss of his lower left leg. Additional surgery has been performed to repair his right leg.
Harrington became pinned between a fire truck and another vehicle which struck the emergency unit due to low visibility from the fire’s smoke.
