PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh fire captain has been suspended without pay after an arrest on charges of drunken driving and possession of narcotics, fire officials said.
Frank R. Becker Jr., a 16-year-veteran, was arrested in the North Side last month. Pittsburgh police Officer Paul Abel pulled over Becker’s car after Becker drove through a stop sign, police said.
Abel found what appeared to be cocaine residue on a compact disc inside the car. Becker was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.163, police said.
City Fire Chief Darryl Jones said Becker, 38, was suspended without pay pending a decision on his employment status from the trial board. Jones said he learned yesterday of a May arrest in Robinson where Becker was charged with DUI, careless driving, reckless endangerment and possession of narcotics.
“It was his responsibility to notify the department of that incident, and he did not,” Jones said.
