WEST MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Firefighter Earl Shoemaker, with the Eagle Fire Company of the Hanover (Pa.) Fire Department, suffered a medical emergency en route to a mutual-aid call.
WGAL reports that Shoemaker, 68, was driving the support vehicle at the time of the emergency and ran off the road. Fire Chief Joe Cromer said Shoemaker had served on the department for about 45 years.
No other firefighters were injured. The rig ended up in a field, the fire chief told WGAL.
The unit was en route to a house fire. An investigation is under way.
