SANTA FE, N.M. — New Mexico authorities say two people were killed Monday when their small plane crashed in a wooded area near Santa Fe.
State police spokesman Peter Olson says investigators believe the single-engine plane had taken off from Edgewood for Los Alamos. He says heavy snow was falling in the area.
Firefighters had received a call about a brush fire and found the wreckage when they arrived at the scene.
Santa Fe Deputy Fire Chief David Sperling says identifying markings on the charred plane could not be read.
Olson says the Office of the Medical Investigator will have to determine the identities of the two victims.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
