On March 19 at 1040 HRS, three Shelton (Conn.) companies were dispatched to Copper Penny Lane for a report of a structure fire. The first-in officer reported a 2 ½-story wood frame structure with heavy fire showing from the top floor. Due to the heavy volume of fire, as well as an early collapse of the top floor, command called for a defensive operation. All occupants were reported to be out of the structure before fire units arrived on scene. Crews worked on scene for approximately three hours. Derby, Monroe and Nichols fire departments provided station coverage during the incident.
