NEW YORK — The FDNY battled three major house fires late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, creating a chaotic five hours across Staten Island.
Just after 4 a.m. Tuesday, multiple units battled flames for more than an hour at a three-story, multi-family building at 268 Targee St. in Stapleton, where a fire was reported on the second floor, a spokesman for the department said.
One civilian was transported to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, with a serious but non-life threatening injury. Additionally, two firefighters suffered minor injuries, according to the FDNY.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
NEW SPRINGVILLE
Earlier in the night, firefighters on the West Shore responded at about 2:05 a.m. to a report of smoke and flames at a two-story house near the intersection of Rockland and Shepard avenues in New Springville.
More than 100 firefighters from about two dozen FDNY units took nearly an hour to battle the flames -- some of which shot out a second-story window, the spokesman said.
Three firefighters were treated for minor injuries -- one at Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, and the other two at Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
NEW BRIGHTON
The first incident was reported at about 11:20 p.m. Monday at 12 Clinton Ave. in New Brighton, where 60 firefighters and a dozen units responded to flames at a residential property.
Flames on the first and second floors tore through the two-story structure, the spokesman said.
Four firefighters were taken to RUMC with minor injuries.
According to emergency radio transmissions, Con Edison crews were at one point was called to the scene for a report of issues with nearby power lines.
A “For Sale” sign appeared to have been hanging from the house prior to the fire.
That fire also is under investigation.
