HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia fire sergeant was hospitalized on Tuesday after going into cardiac arrest while participating in training with recruits.
Hall County Fire Sgt. Jonathan Barton is now in critical but stable condition, according to a GoFundMe page created to help with his medical bills and childcare during his recovery.
“Overnight, Jonathan was responsive to his wife, attempting to speak around his endotracheal tube,” a Hall County Fire Services statement said. “He experienced several episodes of ventricular tachycardia that were managed by hospital staff.”
The medical emergency occurred at the Hall County Fire Services Training Center during physical training, where fire personnel immediately responded before he was transported by ambulance to the hospital, according to the statement.
