MATADOR, Texas — A Texas firefighter is recovering in the hospital after suffering severe injuries in a rollover crash involving a fire truck.

The Motley County Fire Department was responding to several lighting fires reported on Monday night when Logan Jones, 18, was injured after the fire truck he was riding in rolled over several times, Everything Lubbock reported.

Jones, a volunteer firefighter with the Matador Volunteer Fire Department and son of the fire chief, was transported via an air ambulance to the University Medical Center after he sustained serious injuries, including several broken bones.

Fire department officials say he is already asking when he can get back to work, despite still being hospitalized.

“His dream is to follow in his dad’s footsteps,” fellow volunteer Firefighter Rafael Aldrich said. “The whole community is rooting for him to get better quickly.”

Firefighter Brandon Moore, who was driving the truck at the time, sustained minor injuries.
