Fire truck used at Detwiler Fire burglarized, man arrested
Two radios, two firefighting helmets and an Apple iPhone were stolen from fire trucks while they were parked outside of a hotel

MARIPOSA COUNTY, Calif. — Stolen equipment used by firefighters while they battled the Detwiler Fire while they rested after a 24-hour shift has been recovered, according to police.
Merced Sun-Star reported that police took five reports of stolen equipment from fire trucks that were used in the fight against the wildfire.
ABC30 reported that Tyler Boyle, 30, was stopped in a stolen car and arrested. Some of the equipment was found inside.
Capt. Bimley West said the fire trucks were parked at local hotels when the burglaries occurred. Two radios, two firefighting helmets and an Apple iPhone were reported stolen.
“These are items that the firefighters use while on duty trying to protect lives as well as protect properties,” West said. “It’s a shame that (to) these thieves there’s nothing sacred to them.”
Another engine parked at a hotel in town was broken into, and Boyle allegedly took hand-held radios, uniforms, a weather meter and a spare key to the truck.
Boyle faces charges of possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm.
