NEW YORK — A fire station nicknamed the “friendly firehouse” is under investigation after several allegations of sexual misconduct, bullying and hazing.
NY Daily News reported that the station, which features a giant smiley face on the door, was cleared out by FDNY Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, resulting in the transfer of six fire offices and two firefighters.
Allegations against the fire station members include creating a text group called the “F*** Shop” and sharing photos of their privates near the faces of unsuspecting sleeping colleagues.
The transferred members also allegedly harassed firefighter Raheem Hassan, who was arrested for retaliating with threats, saying he wanted to kill the firefighters while on the phone with a supervisor.
Hassan, a practicing Muslim, said he stopped eating meals with his colleagues after they rolled his food in bacon grease and tried to trick him into eating pork.
“The department’s Equal Employment Opportunity Office, and the bureau of investigation and trials are investigating all the allegations at the firehouse,” FDNY Spokesman Frank Dwyer said.
After the allegations, Commissioner Nigro called all 900 FDNY officers together to deliver a tougher no-hazing policy.
