MINNEOLA, Fla. — City Council members this week upheld former fire Chief David Dobrzykowski’s termination. However, council members said Dobrzykowski can apply for any open positions within the department, except as fire chief.
City Manager Sam Oppelaar dismissed Dobrzykowski on Sept. 24 for insubordination and failing to follow protocol. Dobrzykowski, who had been fire chief since June 2005, had been issued seven letters of reprimand by Oppelaar in the past year.
He also was accused of driving to Tampa to look for a used firetruck after he was told not to by Oppelaar.
Dobrzykowski later asked to appeal his termination to the council.
Wednesday’s special meeting, scheduled last month, came a day after council members agreed to accept Oppelaar’s resignation.
