CICERO, Ill. — Officials of the city of Cicero say they are moving to dismiss a firefighter charged in January with possession of a controlled substance.
George Gonzalez, a 17-year veteran of the department, was arrested in Bolingbrook after police allegedly found 3.5 grams of a powdery substance in his pocket. Police said the substance tested positive for cocaine during a field test.
Gonzalez’s arrest occurred days after Cicero Police Commander Wesley Scott was charged by Chicago police on a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. Town officials say they are moving to fire Scott.
Cicero’s firefighters union will represent Gonzalez in a hearing before an arbitrator. No hearing date has been set.
