Norfolk Southern issues $1M in reimbursements for train crash response

Bessemer FD received $174,699 to cover the costs of lost hose, turnout gear, nozzles and other items

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio — A least one fire department has been reimbursed by Norfolk Southern for damages and losses suffered last month in the East Palestine train derailment and fire, the New Castle News reported.

Norfolk Southern completed its first $1 million in reimbursements to Pennsylvania fire departments, first responders and Beaver County Hazmat, Gov. Josh Shapiro announced Thursday.

Bessemer Borough received $174,699, said Bessemer Fire Chief Jeff Breetz. The department lost hose, turnout gear, nozzles and other items due to contamination.
