Alabama firefighter dies during training exercise

SPRINGVILLE, Ala. — A Springville firefighter died Monday during training in Anniston.

The firefighter’s name has not been released. He was taken to UAB Hospital, accompanied by first responders from several agencies including the Anniston Fire Department and the Springville Police Department.

Fire Chief Richard Harvey said they believe he died from a medical incident but said the death is under investigation by the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office. He said more information about the firefighter will be released on Tuesday.

The department posted this on its Facebook page: “It is with great sadness and with broken hearts the Springville Fire Department announces that one of its members has suffered a Line of Duty death during an off-site training exercise. Any additional information will be released upon completion of family notifications.”
