PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. — Colleagues and friends are mourning the loss of a firefighter who was shot and killed while responding to a patient with a seizure Friday.
KATV reported that the Sherwood Fire Department and East Pulaski Volunteer Fire Department are grieving the loss of Lt. Jason Adams, who was killed after being mistaken for an intruder while responding to an EMS call.
“As firefighters, you know, there are risks involved with the job,” Capt. Edwin Woolf with the Little Rock Fire Department said. “Every time a firefighter goes on a call they say they’re putting their lives on the line to save others. We all think the same way, we all work the same way, we do the same job and so yeah it’s really disturbing when something like this happens.”
Homeowner Mark Pruitt has been charged with manslaughter in the death of Lt. Adams. When asked why he shot Adams, Pruitt responded, “Somebody came in my house.”
“I hate to think what his family is going through knowing that he’s not going to be coming home and its just horrible,” Cindy Bell, firefighter wife of 28 years, told KATV.
Funeral services will be held this week and there will also be a flash light vigil Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Arkansas Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial. The event is open to the public.
