YUMA, Colo. — Volunteer Firefighter Larry Wyant died Tuesday as he battled a fire sparked by a combine in a cornfield, the Joes Fire Department announced on Facebook.
Firefighters faced 30-mph winds, with gusts up to 60 mph, and the wind direction kept changing, according to firefighterclosecalls.com. Wyant was reportedly trying to stretch a hoseline when the fire overtook him.

This is the second loss in less than a week for the firefighting community. Captain Darcy Stallings, 34, who served with the Yuma Volunteer Fire Department, was killed in a vehicle crash while responding to a call on Oct. 21.
Members of the area firefighting community were on the way to the funeral for Stallings when the fire broke out.
