ATTLEBORO, Mass. — A firefighter died Monday after collapsing the previous day while on the job.

NBC Boston reported that Attleboro Fire Department firefighter Thomas Cannon, 63, was checking trucks and equipment when he collapsed from cardiac arrest.

Cannon was revived by his colleagues and transported to the hospital, where he later died.

“I am very saddened at the news of Thomas Cannon’s line of duty death,” Attleboro Fire Chief Scott Lachance said in a statement. “He served our department with distinction and pride for over 30 years.”

Cannon was a member of the department for over 30 years, and helped implement the Juvenile Fire Setters Intervention Program, according to officials.
