ENGELHARD, N.C. — A fire chief died Sunday after suffering a cardiac arrest hours after a training course.
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Engelhard Fire and Rescue Chief Tony Spencer III, 51, participated in a Firefighter I and II hose certification class on May 31.
Chief Spencer returned to his home, where he suffered a cardiac arrest a few hours later.
He was airlifted to the hospital and died three days later.
