KUNKLE, Ohio — An assistant fire chief died March 16 after suffering a cardiac arrest while attending a family event the day after battling a blaze.
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Madison Township-Kunkle Fire Department Assistant Chief Rodney Baker Jr., 47, was the commanding officer at a grass fire the day before his death.
Chief Baker collapsed at a family event, and was treated by family members before being transported to the hospital, where he later died.
Chief Baker was a member of the fire department for 29 years, and was assistant chief for eight years, according to his obituary.
