HOUSTON — The death of a firefighter on Nov. 29, 2015 just received official recognition and reporting from the U.S. Fire Administration.
Firefighter Richard Cano, 35, with the Cy-Fair (Texas) Volunteer Fire Department, responded to three incidents during his shift on Nov. 21. The last incident was at a 3-alarm apartment fire. Firefighter Cano returned home after the call, went to sleep and his wife later observed him in distress and he stopped breathing.
She called 911 and responders found Cano’s wife performing CPR upon arrival. Care was taken over by the ambulance crew and he was transported to the hospital. He was in the hospital’s intensive care unit for a week, but never regained consciousness.
Firefighter Cano was a four-year veteran of the department.
