VIGO COUNTY, Ind. — The Prairieton Fire Department announced on social media the on-duty death of one of their firefighters.
The department posted on Facebook about the loss of the firefighter on Nov. 2, WLFI reported.
Prairieton Fire Department Deputy Chief Larry Dempsey told WTWO that while at the scene of a house fire in southern Vigo County, a firefighter with his department had to be taken to Regional Hospital.
The website FirefighterCloseCalls.com stated that Firefighter David Phelps had died of a heart attack while inside a fire truck at the scene of the fire.
The department stated that additional details will be released at the discretion of the fallen firefighter’s family.
