WHITNEY, Texas — The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) announced the on-duty death of Whitney Fire Department Safety Officer Daniel Potts.

On Friday, Nov. 24, Potts was at the fire station. He was getting in his support vehicle to respond to a residential fire when he was found unconscious, the USFA stated. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The cause of his death has yet to be determined.

In a Facebook post, the department stated that Potts was a veteran firefighter and had recently taken on the position of safety officer.

His funeral has been scheduled for Dec. 1 in Whitney.
