PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A Pittsburgh firefighter is charged with stealing $1,000 from a safe at a Carrick bar.
Police obtained a warrant Wednesday charging John F. Farah, 32, of Carrick with burglary.
He is awaiting arraignment, according to online court records.
The owner of Carrick Lit Club told police someone came into his business Sunday morning when the club was closed and stole cash from a safe.
The owner reviewed the club’s surveillance footage and recognized Farah as the person who took the money, according to a criminal complaint.
He told police he and Farah used to be business partners. He said he hadn’t changed the combination to his safe since he bought out Farah in March 2013, according to the complaint.
Court records do not list an attorney for Farah.
He joined the Pittsburgh fire bureau in January 2013 and makes $51,602 a year, said Tim McNulty, a spokesman for Mayor Bill Peduto.
The burglary charge isn’t Farah’s first brush with the law. He stood on a table at Heinz Field with his pants down in October 2014 and fought with security guards when they told him to get down and pull his pants up, according to a criminal complaint.
Farah bit a guard on the arm and damaged the guard’s radio during the scuffle. He pleaded guilty to a harassment charge in March, and a judge ordered him to pay $1,290 in restitution and $203 in court costs.
