GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Police believe the person who fired shots into a fire station Tuesday night were not targeting firefighters.
WOODtv reported that the shooting at the LaGrave, Mich. fire station appears to be a random act.
“There’s no indication that the LaGrave Street fire station was targeted or firefighters are being targeted,” Fire Chief Laura Knapp said.
Lt. Rich Clark, vice president of the firefighters union, said firefighters do not feel endangered in this case.
Police believe the gunfire may be related to a call they received around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday for shots fired in the area.
Witnesses told officers they heard a fight in the area before the gunshots. Officers found three shell casings but no suspects or victims.
Police said three shots hit the fire station. However, firefighters counted five bullet holes.
The barrage of gunfire damaged two overhead doors and left two holes in a second story window to the fire prevention office.
Firefighters were inside the building when it was hit, but no one was hurt.
The incident remains under investigation.
