RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — A man was arrested early Thursday morning for allegedly assaulting a firefighter with a knife, officials said.

Fire investigators approached 34-year-old transient Gregorio Gonzalez to ask him about a residential structure fire near Hellman Avenue and Ninth Street just before 7 a.m., officials said in a news release.

He was extremely confrontational and uncooperative, prompting authorities to call deputies for assistance, officials said.

Hearing the radio call, Gonzalez allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened them. Deputies allege Gonzalez threw the knife at the fire investigators and ran south from the location.

Responding deputies found him nearby and detained him without incident.

Gonzalez was booked at West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a firefighter. His bail was set at $50,000, according to booking logs.
