WASHINGTON — Authorities say 16 people have been rescued from a stuck elevator inside the Washington Monument.

D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says the group became stuck about 500 feet above ground Thursday evening. He says rescue workers managed to bring the elevator to the ground floor, but about two dozen visitors at the top of the monument had to walk down.

No injuries have been reported.
