DALTON, Ga. — Dalton firefighters rescued two women Monday evening after a large tree flattened most of their house, officials said.

The two were not injured.

Capt. Todd Pangle said a woman and her daughter-in-law were in the only room of the home that was not destroyed by the falling tree.

“They were in the only corner not smashed flat,” Pangle said. “It was incredible.”

Firefighters took out a window so the women could escape after they responded to the call on School Street around 12:45 p.m., Pangle said.
